The company's headquarters are in Baltimore, Maryland, with additional offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville and Dallas. It consists of three affiliated firms: Shelter Development, LLC and Municipal Mortgage and Equity.

Over the last 15 years, Shelter has developed or financed $500 million in residential real estate projects and currently manages and asset manages over 21,350 units in 98 properties.

Shelter Properties provides fee-based property management services. Shelter currently manages 14,191 units located in nine regions throughout the United States. Shelter manages a full range of properties including affordable, luxury garden, high-rise apartments, housing for the elderly (both affordable and high-end assisted living facilities) located in urban and suburban areas, as well as several office / retail complexes.
